Mr. Manjula Fernando, Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, has announced that reductions in electricity bills will commence from the 16th of this month. The final decision on these reductions will be formally announced on the 15th.
To facilitate public input, written comments will be accepted until the 8th, with an opportunity for oral comments on the 9th. The oral comments session will be held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in Colombo. Interested parties wishing to provide oral comments must register in advance by calling 0770126246.
The proposed reductions by the Electricity Board to the Public Utilities Commission are as follows:
- Units 0-30 at Rs 2 per unit,
- Units 30-60 at Rs 11 per unit,
- Units 60-90 at Rs 12 per unit,
- Units 90-120 at Rs 20 per unit reduction.
