Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody at Welikada Prison, has been admitted to the Cardiology Unit of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka in Colombo.
Rajapaksa was previously taken to the National Eye Hospital on October 9 for specialist treatment before being returned to prison custody.
She had been referred to a prison medical specialist on October 8 due to an eye condition.
Meanwhile, the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court earlier rejected an anticipatory bail application filed by Rajapaksa in connection with a possible arrest by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) over investigations into the Siriliya Saviya Fund account.
Rajapaksa, the wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was arrested on October 7 at her residence on Poorwarama Road in Kirulapone by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
According to the Bribery Commission, the arrest followed the recording of a statement from her lasting nearly two hours in connection with investigations into alleged financial irregularities and transactions involving an account linked to the Siriliya Saviya Fund.
