Today, the National Consumer Front (NCF) has reported a staggering increase in the price of coconut oil, soaring by over Rs. 100 per litre. As per NCF Chairman Asela Sampath, the surge ranges from Rs. 180 to Rs. 200, pushing the retail price to Rs. 550 per litre.
Sampath has urgently called upon the government to clarify whether there has been a Rs. 150 rise in Customs taxes and has urged for an immediate investigation into possible hoarding of coconut oil stocks.
