All schools on the island will be closed next Wednesday as the Ceylon Teachers’ Union plans a mass sick leave on the 26th.
Joseph Starling, the general secretary of the union, announced that if the government fails to meet their demands as promised, teachers will also withdraw from the G.C.E Ordinary Level evaluation activities.
This professional action has created uncertainty for students who are expected to attend school on that day, as the presence of teachers is now in doubt.
Despite this, the Ministry of Education maintains that schools will operate as usual on the 26th.
