During this year’s presidential election, mobile phones are not allowed inside the vote counting centers, according to Police Media Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa, who made the announcement at a special news conference today at the Government Information Department.

DIG Thalduwa underlined that this action is being taken to avoid problems that have emerged in past elections, when data from the centers was disclosed in a variety of ways. The new regulation only pertains to counting officers. Furthermore, voters will not be permitted to bring cell phones into polling places, just like in previous elections.
