Recently, the Sri Lankan Parliament was visited by a group of Middle Eastern journalists on an educational research tour. The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) arranged the tour, which was funded by the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) and featured a comprehensive education program regarding the country’s parliament.
Journalists from Kuwait, Egypt, Algeria, and Morocco learned a great deal about the composition and operations of Sri Lanka’s legislature during the visit. The legislative process, parliamentary debates, and the committees’ function in defining and disseminating parliamentary processes to the general public were all discussed throughout the sessions.
Important conversations also emphasized how the Parliament promotes bilateral and international ties, especially in the context of South Asia. The importance of Sri Lanka’s dedication to meeting international accords and attaining sustainable development goals was emphasized.
Mr. M. Jayalath Perera, Acting Director of Legislative Services and Communication, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, Secretary General of Parliament, Mr. Kumar Lopez, Chief Executive Officer of the Sri Lanka Press Institute, and Hansa Abeyratne, Assistant Secretary General, were among the notable attendees. Their involvement emphasized how crucial international communication and collaboration are to improving comprehension of legislative processes and international alliances.
