Cricket Australia (CA) has banned former Sri Lankan international cricketer Dulip Samaraweera for 20 years for violating the organization’s code of conduct. The decision was made in response to an inquiry by the CA Integrity Department, which discovered that Samaraweera had acted inappropriately with a player while working at Cricket Victoria.
52-year-old Samaraweera played five One-Day Internationals and seven Tests for Sri Lanka during his brief international career, which ended in 1995. He was elevated to head coach of Victoria’s women’s squad earlier this year and most recently worked as an assistant coach with the Melbourne Stars WBBL. However, he left the position soon after taking it on because of conflicts over staff appointments.
Samaraweera’s actions have been denounced by Cricket Victoria as “utterly reprehensible.” The organization promised to keep helping the victim in question and underlined its dedication to upholding a safe environment for all participants and staff.
