The executive grade officers of the university’s non-academic staff have ended their nearly two-month-long strike, according to a spokesman for the University Grants Commission (UGC).
This decision followed a discussion with the Chairman of the UGC, Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunga. Despite this development, the wider non-academic staff strike, involving over 12,000 employees, continues unabated.
Dhammika S. Priyantha, a representative, clarified that while approximately 500 executive-level officers have returned to work, the rest of the non-academic employees remain on strike. Priyantha emphasized that these employees will persist with their strike action until their demands are met.
