Early this morning at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, the Wellawatta Police arrested Nadeen Bhasik, the son of prominent drug dealer Shiran Bhasik. Bhasik was arrested on suspicion of trying to kill someone and escaping the scene of an automobile accident when he was traveling back from Dubai.

The arrest comes following a spectacular episode that occurred earlier this year. On February 16, Bhasik barely avoided a police raid in Wellawatta, Sri Lanka, and fled. A former Kotikawatta Pradeshiya Sabha member was arrested during the operation at an apartment building. But Bhasik avoided being apprehended by supposedly driving over a police sergeant, who was hurt and subsequently received medical attention at the Narahenpita Police Hospital.

Law enforcement officials allegedly found 19 grams of heroin, a cell phone, a laptop, several foreign currencies, Bhasik’s driver’s license, an identity card from Dubai, another driver’s license from the same state, and multiple documents detailing financial transactions with different people during the raid in February, according to the Special Task Force (STF).

The continuing investigation into the actions of Nadeen Bhasik’s father, Shiran Bhasik, and his collaborators has taken a major turn with his arrest this morning.
