CNFadmin

New guidelines have been issued by the Election Commission to help voters who are physically or visually impaired during elections. These regulations allow such voters to have a voting station attendant assist them in marking their ballot.

Key requirements for the accompanying assistant include:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Cannot be a candidate in the election.
  • Must not serve as an authorized representative, regional representative, or polling station representative for any candidate in the election.

Voters must provide a fitness certificate in accordance with the Fifth Schedule of the Act on the Election of the President in order to guarantee a seamless support procedure. The steps listed below can be used to earn this certificate:

  1. Obtain the application form from the district election office, village officer’s office, or download it from https://elections.gov.lk/.

2.Complete the form and submit it to the village officer for certification.

3. Present the form to a government medical officer for further certification.

The voter and their helper must show a valid form of identification, such as a national identity card, at the voting place on election day.

In order to guarantee that every voter has the required backing to exercise their right to vote, the Election Commission has laid forth these measures.
