The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Prof. Terence Madujith, has suspended four senior students from the Faculty of Science in connection with an alleged assault on two first-year students. The incident reportedly took place on the night of the 12th when the victims were attacked at the Akbar hostel.
Following the assault, both injured students were admitted to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital. One of them, who sustained severe injuries, was later transferred to Kandy National Hospital for further treatment, where it was revealed that his ear had been seriously damaged.
The university’s disciplinary department conducted a preliminary inquiry, identifying the four suspects as third- and fourth-year students of the Faculty of Science. Their studentship has been suspended pending a final decision.
The Peradeniya Police have also launched a special investigation into the incident.
