Dr. Vickramabahu Karunaratne, the leader of the Nawa Sama Samaja Party, has passed away at the age of 81. According to family sources, he died early this morning (25th July).
Born on March 8, 1943, in Lunugala, Dr. Karunaratne received his primary education at Mathugama Ananda Vidyalaya and completed his secondary education at Ananda Vidyalaya, Colombo. He excelled in Electrical Engineering, earning a first-class pass, and was awarded a Commonwealth scholarship to study at Cambridge University, where he obtained his PhD in 1970.
After returning to Sri Lanka, Dr. Karunaratne embarked on an academic career while becoming a prominent figure in left-wing politics. His contributions to both academia and political activism have left a lasting impact.
