In a significant boost to sports infrastructure, Minister of Tourism, Lands, Sports, and Youth Affairs, Harin Fernando, has inaugurated the construction of a state-of-the-art indoor stadium and auditorium at St. Joseph Vaz College in Wennappuwa. The project, valued at 100 million, is being funded by the Sports Development Department of the Sports Ministry, along with contributions from the school community.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister Fernando emphasized the collaborative effort behind the project and assured that it would be completed within 90 days. He highlighted that this initiative is free from any political influence, focusing solely on the development of the school and its students.
Minister Fernando praised the achievements of St. Joseph Vaz College students, noting their participation in the Olympic Games and selections for the under-19 Sri Lankan cricket team, despite the absence of adequate stadium facilities. He also announced plans to construct a comprehensive outdoor stadium for the school, ensuring students have access to top-notch sports infrastructure.
The launch of this project marks a significant step in fostering athletic talent and providing better opportunities for the students of St. Joseph Vaz College.
