Mr. Anusha Palpita, Secretary of the Ministry of Mass Media, has proposed an increase in the minimum price of postage stamps to 100 rupees, pending approval from the treasury.
The minimum price of postage stamps, which stood at 15 rupees until 2022, has already been raised to 50 rupees.
This decision comes in response to significant financial losses incurred by the postal department, which reported a loss of 7000 million rupees in the fiscal year 2023 alone.
