Employees in private and semi-government institutions should be allowed to vote on leave in accordance with the law, according to the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL). According to Mr. Rohana Hettiarachchi, Chairman of PAFFREL, employers that disregard these regulations may be subject to legal action.

“If an employer refuses to provide leave for voting, the incident should be reported to PAFFREL,” stated Hettiarachchi. He made it clear that such infractions might lead to a two lakh rupee fine and a maximum one month sentence in jail.

Additionally, PAFFREL has affirmed that the Election Commission will receive any reports of non-compliance and take appropriate action.
