Under the “Urumaya” national program, aimed at distributing 20 lakh land deeds, President Ranil Wickramasinghe and Minister of Tourism, Lands, Sports, and Youth Affairs, Harin Fernando, awarded land deeds to 1,654 beneficiaries out of 20,000 eligible individuals. The ceremony took place at Weerasinghe Ground in Ampara.

President Wickramasinghe symbolically participated in the distribution of the land deeds, highlighting the government’s commitment to land reform and supporting farmers.

Minister Harin Fernando, who has been instrumental in the implementation of the Urumaya program, emphasized the significance of this initiative. “This program represents the heritage of the people, and it is their responsibility to preserve it for future generations. We are dedicated to ensuring that farmers who have been cultivating on others’ lands receive their rightful ownership,” said Fernando.
