EC Bans Social Media Campaigning During Silent Period

All candidates have been directed by the Election Commission to stop using social media for their campaigns starting at midnight today. All media are subject to the silent period, which guarantees that there is no campaigning in the final hours before the polls open.

The Election Commission has announced a unique monitoring system to keep a careful eye on internet political activity during this time in order to enforce this. To guarantee compliance, the commission has also liaised with pertinent social media sites. Candidates who break these regulations shall be prosecuted in accordance with the commission’s rules.
