The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee has appointed Charith Asalanka as the new captain of the national T20 team, The Sunday Times reported. The official notification was given to Asalanka last Friday.
Asalanka will assume the role of regular captain starting with the upcoming T20 series against India. This appointment follows the resignation of Wanindu Hasaranga from the leadership position.
Hasaranga, who captained the team for nearly six months, faced significant criticism for his behavior and leadership style. Consequently, Sri Lanka Cricket announced his resignation from the captaincy.
During a discussion between Asalanka and the selection committee members last Friday, they also deliberated on team combinations for the forthcoming tournament.
The T20 series between Sri Lanka and India is set to commence on the 27th at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy and will feature three matches.
