After recent public discussions, Sri Lanka has clarified its diplomatic presence in Israel. The country’s official embassy in Tel Aviv, which has been its only diplomatic presence since 2000, is still fully operational and serves as the principal point of contact between the two countries, according to Foreign Minister Ali Sabry.
Furthermore, Sabry talked about the function of an honorary consul stationed in Haifa to offer consular assistance to Sri Lankans residing in the area. He explained that this appointment, which was made prior to the events of October 7, 2023, is consistent with global norms and does not signify the establishment of a new consulate.
As no new consulates or honorary consul appointments have been made in Israel since the relevant date, the Foreign Minister asked the public and media to rely on official sources for accurate information. In especially, he cautioned against misinterpreting the administrative relocation of consular posts under the same authority. As no new consulates or honorary consul appointments have been made in Israel since the relevant date, the Foreign Minister asked the public and media to rely on official sources for accurate information.
