The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit is set to commence today, July 11, in India, under the chairmanship of Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar.
Foreign ministers from several member countries have already arrived in India for the event, with Sri Lanka being represented by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Tharaka Balasuriya.
During the summit, the foreign ministers will engage in discussions aimed at enhancing and deepening cooperation in various domains. Key areas of focus will include Bay of Bengal and maritime security, connectivity, trade and investment, and inter-municipal relations. This summit seeks to bolster collaborative efforts and strengthen ties among the BIMSTEC nations.
