The University of Sri Jayawardenepura’s Students’ Union has filed an official complaint with the Election Commission, charging Sajith Premadasa, the presidential candidate, and his associates with manipulating a recent student dispute for political advantage.
The incident, which the university administration reported as student unrest, was actually a fight between two political factions, the union said. They declared that Premadasa’s purportedly misleading propaganda was meant to deceive the public and denounced it.
The students’ union also underlined how the falsehood has harmed students, who will make up a sizable portion of the electorate in the next presidential election. They have demanded that the Election Commission look into the situation and take the necessary steps.
