Indian National Arrested at Airport for Rs. 30M Gold Smuggling

During a recent operation, police from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Katunayake Airport in Sri Lanka arrested a 29-year-old Indian national who was trying to smuggle gold biscuits worth about Rs. 30 million.

Arriving from Chennai in business class, the suspect was apprehended at the departure terminal as he was getting ready to board an aircraft to Bangalore.

Nine gold biscuits totaling 1.158 kilos were found after a thorough check of the person, in addition to three more gold pieces stashed in a little pouch inside his trouser pocket.

Authorities are currently looking into the man, and more legal action is anticipated.
