The Election Commission, as per the country’s Constitution, will have the authority to announce the date of the presidential election after midnight tonight (16th). Chairman of the Election Commission, R.M.A.L. Rathnayake, stated that the date would be revealed before the end of this month.
In a special press conference held today (16th) at the Election Commission, Rathnayake mentioned that polling would occur on a suitable date after September 17th.
Additionally, officials from the Ministry of Finance are scheduled to meet with the Election Commission tomorrow (17th). The Chairman highlighted that discussions would focus on securing funds for the presidential election and related activities. He assured that preparations for the election are ongoing.
