According to The Telegraph, extensive talks are apparently underway for legendary cricketer Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka to become the next coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2025 Indian Premier League. Following Gautam Gambhir’s departure to join the Indian coaching system, KKR is seeking to bolster their coaching team, which presently consists of bowling coach Bharat Arun and head coach Chandrakant Pandit.
Prior to the forthcoming season, Sangakkara—who was formerly the Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) Director of Cricket—may decide to leave the team. According to reports, Rahul Dravid would take Sangakkara’s place at RR. Dravid most recently led the Indian side to victory in the T20 World Cup in 2024. At the Royals, Dravid is anticipated to reunite with former batting coach Vikram Rathour.
Sangakkara is weighing several offers from other IPL teams, but KKR seems to be in the lead. Teams are changing both players and staff as the IPL 2025 super auction draws near. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is anticipated to make an announcement regarding the number of player retentions shortly.
