Following a horrific shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, which left four people dead and nine more injured, a 14-year-old boy will be charged with murder. Two teachers and two students are among the victims. Authorities said that Colt Gray, a student at the school, was taken into custody soon after the attack and will face adult charges. Authorities are still looking for a reason.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Gray was questioned by the FBI in 2023 as a result of tips from an anonymous source regarding threats to carry out a school shooting online. Since there was not enough evidence to support a case at that point, nothing more was done. Witnesses described the horrifying moments as students and teachers attempted to barricade doors and escape as the shooting started during an algebra session.
Governor of Georgia Brian Kemp sent his condolences, and Vice-President Kamala Harris stressed the need for reform and labeled the massacre as “senseless”. Agents from the federal government are supporting the current inquiry.
