The Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake stated that a number of 7365e9t applications were received for postal voting at the Presidential Election to be held in2024. Of them 24,268 applications were accepted and the number of eligible voters became 712321 postal ballots.
Postal voting will take place with ballot papers being sent out on August 26. In the first week of September, there are three days that have been fixed by Election Commission for voters to cast their postal ballots. The postal voting, however, will take place on September 4th to 6 and the Police sector is assigned for September 4.
R.M.A.L. Rathnayake, Chairman of the Election Commission, verified, “We have now finished collecting applications for mail-in voting. Votes cast by mail will be marked starting early next month. The appropriate postal ballots will be sent to the pertinent institutions on August 26.
Furthermore, September 11 and 12 have been designated as additional dates for voters who were not able to mark their ballots by mail during the first round of voting.
September 21st, 2024 is the scheduled date of the presidential election. 39 contenders have filed their nominations.
