In a significant show of support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming presidential election, 34 political parties and alliances have signed the “Puluwan Sri Lanka” convention. The signing took place this morning (16) at the Water’s Edge Hotel in Battaramulla.
Adding to the momentum, Member of Parliament Kumara Welgama and A.H.M. Fowzie have also pledged their support for President Wickremesinghe. Notably, A.H.M. Fowzie was recently nominated to fill the parliamentary seat left vacant by Mujibur Rahman of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Party.
Mujibur Rahman had earlier resigned from his parliamentary position to contest in the local government polls but was later reappointed to Parliament. Following the removal of Diana Gamage from the SJB, Rahman has once again been nominated to fill the resulting vacancy.
