Dozens of staff members at ByteDance’s Singapore office have been hospitalized following a food poisoning outbreak. On Tuesday, 60 employees experienced symptoms of gastroenteritis, with 57 requiring hospital treatment. ByteDance is investigating the cause, noting that the company does not prepare or cook food on-site, relying instead on third-party caterers.

Seventeen ambulances were dispatched to the business district building, and ByteDance has assured that it is taking the situation seriously, collaborating with emergency services to support affected employees. The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is also involved, emphasizing the need for food operators to adhere to stringent safety practices and warning of potential enforcement actions.

ByteDance, founded in 2012, gained prominence with its Douyin and TikTok apps. TikTok, which serves international users, is managed by a company based in Singapore and Los Angeles but remains under ByteDance’s ownership.
