In a recent statement, the Minister of State for Media Mr.Shantha Bandara has proposed granting postal voting rights to journalists. Speaking on July 14, the minister highlighted the challenges faced by media professionals during elections, noting their crucial roles in covering live broadcasts on election days.
The minister pointed out that the country is home to 17 registered television channels and 52 FM radio stations, emphasizing that journalists working in these outlets frequently miss out on voting opportunities due to their live reporting commitments. The proposal comes in response to requests from journalists who seek to ensure they can participate in elections despite their demanding schedules.
