The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory as the south-west monsoon intensifies over the island. Strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h are forecasted for the western slopes of the central hills, as well as the north, north-central, and north-western provinces including Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

Additionally, red notices have been issued for multi-day fishermen and mariners in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal due to active monsoon conditions. Fishermen are advised to exercise caution, particularly in sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Mannar, Puttalam to Hambantota, and Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Mullaitivu.

The Department of Meteorology predicts that Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, along with Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts, may experience more than 50 millimeters of rainfall in the coming days.
