In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court has dismissed the fundamental rights petition challenging the legality of the upcoming presidential election. The petition, filed by lawyer Aruna Laksiri Unawatuna, argued that holding the election without a referendum to pass the 19th amendment would violate the Constitution.
The court not only rejected the petition but also imposed a fine of 5 lakhs rupees on the petitioner.
