Minister of Transport, Highways, and Media, Mr. Bandula Gunawardena, announced today that all station masters who participated in the recent strike have been issued termination letters. These letters state that the station masters are “considered as having left the service.”
The General Commissioner of Railways sent these letters to over a thousand station masters who took part in the strike, which directly defied the orders of the Executive President.
Speaking to the media this afternoon, Minister Gunawardena emphasized that no professional association has the right to disrupt public services under the guise of professional demands. He assured the public that efforts are underway to maintain railway services by deploying the army and security forces if necessary.
