The Colombo High Court has ordered the suspension of fixed deposit accounts and life insurance policies belonging to six family members of former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella for a period of three months. The directive, issued by Judge Manjula Thilakaratne, affects accounts and policies valued at over 97 million rupees.
The suspension applies to accounts and policies held by Keheliya Rambukwella, his wife, his three daughters, and one of his daughters’ husbands. This follows an order from the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission, which on July 4 mandated a seven-day freeze on the fixed deposit accounts and life insurance policies of Rambukwella’s family members.
In total, 16 fixed deposits and three insurance policies have been frozen due to their involvement in suspicious transactions. Keheliya Rambukwella has been in remand for the past five months.
