University Non-Academic Staff Reach Agreement with Authorities

In a recent development, non-academic employees of universities have reported successful discussions with university authorities regarding their demands. Dhammika Priyantha, Co-Chairman of the Joint Committee of University Trade Unions, announced that authorities have committed to addressing their issues by today (02) or tomorrow (03).

“We have clearly communicated to Raghavan that we are steadfast in our agreements with the minister. To conclude these matters, we require our 2017-approved monthly allowance without further delay,” Priyantha stated. Following negotiations, it was agreed that the matter would be presented to the Cabinet for prompt resolution. Priyantha expressed optimism for a positive outcome within the stated timeframe, emphasizing that continued professional actions hinge on these assurances.

Meanwhile, teachers unions have expressed dissatisfaction with the response to their demands and are set to stage protests in front of schools across the island today (02). Joseph Stalin, General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union, affirmed their commitment to ongoing trade union actions until their demands are met.
