CID Officer Assaulted at Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s Rally

A CID officer was assaulted while attempting to take photographs at a meeting with Anura Kumara Dissanayake, leader of the National People’s Power (NPP). The incident occurred during a rally at Kurunegala Stadium on the evening of the 2nd.

The officer, who was in civilian clothes, was reportedly attacked by a group of rally participants when he tried to take photos near the entrance gate as Dissanayake’s vehicle approached the stage. The intelligence officer subsequently abandoned his post, fled to a nearby jeep, and escaped.

Sources indicate that the assault happened when Dissanayake’s security officer questioned the intelligence officer on suspicion.
