The National Democratic Front’s Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has expressed concerns about certain election contenders’ financial transparency. He brought attention to differences between their declared monthly incomes, which ranged from Rs. 200,000 to Rs. 400,000, and their significant wealth increase, which prompted the Bribery Commission to receive complaints.

In addition, Rajapakshe denounced the use of “dummy candidates” in the election and denounced the giving away of food items like rice and biryani to campaigning supporters, calling such actions “bribery.” He issued a warning, saying that offering financial incentives to retirees and government workers is against the law and would render them ineligible in nations such as India.

He underlined again the need for tougher legislation to combat electoral malpractice and issued a dire warning to any candidate who might win by unscrupulous means: their presidency could be legally contested and possibly declared void in a matter of months.
