A high-level chemistry tutor in Gampaha was arrested yesterday following allegations of defrauding a local businessman of Rs. 1.5 crore. The arrest came after a complaint was filed by the businessman, who is reportedly a close friend of the accused and also owns a hotel.
According to police reports, the businessman sold furniture valued at Rs. 1.5 crore to the tutor, who allegedly issued checks that later bounced, leading to accusations of fraud. The incident was brought to the attention of the Gampaha Division Special Crime Investigation Department, which conducted an investigation leading to the arrest.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing, managed by the Gampaha Division Special Criminal Investigation Division.
