Police Inspector Injured in Prison Incident

A police inspector from the Colombo Crime Division sustained injuries in a prison incident at the Colombo Remand Prison, reportedly involving an underworld member. The inspector, facing charges of accepting bribes, was admitted to the prison hospital where he received stitches for injuries to his cheek.

According to Prison Commissioner Media Spokesman Gamini B.Dissanayake, the incident occurred when a disciple of former underworld leader Prince Colum allegedly attacked the inspector. The prison authorities have initiated investigations into the matter.

The inspector and a constable were apprehended by the Bribery Commission for allegedly accepting a bribe related to a money fraud case pending at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court. They were remanded until the 23rd following their appearance before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on the 9th.
