Latest Update on K. Sujeewa’s Condition Following Transfer to National Hospital

Mr. Rukshan, Director of the National Hospital, confirmed that two individuals injured in the Athurugiriya shooting have been transferred to the National Hospital and are currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.

The victims, a man and a woman, were initially admitted to the emergency department with various injuries. The woman’s leg wound has stabilized, and her condition is now stable.

The shooting occurred today (08) around 10 AM during the opening ceremony of a new establishment near the Clock Tower in Tattoo Parlor, Athurugiriya town. The attack claimed the lives of well-known businessman Surendra Wasantha Perera, also known as Club Wasantha, aged 55, and a 38-year-old man. Both victims were residents of the Athurugiriya area.

Famous singer K. Sujeeva was also injured in the incident, along with two other women and a man. K. Sujeeva and a male child are currently being treated at the National Hospital, while the other two women are receiving care at Homagama Hospital.

Police investigations reveal that the assailants arrived in a car and used two T-56 firearms to carry out the attack. A car suspected to be involved in the shooting was later found abandoned in the Korathota area. CCTV footage captured the shooters moving between vehicles along the road.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into this violent incident.
