The Lanka Premier League (LPL) competition committee has fined Kandy Falcons captain Wanindu Hasaranga 3,600 US dollars (11 lakh Sri Lankan rupees) for violating the tournament’s clothing regulations.

The incident occurred during a recent match when Hasaranga failed to comply with Irish referee Rollie Black’s directive to remove inappropriate attire. The fine will be deducted from his match fee for this year’s tournament.

The chief referee lodged a complaint following the match between Kandy Falcons and Colombo Strikers, leading match referee Graeme Labrooy to officially inform the Kandy team of the penalty.

In response to this incident, the competition committee has reiterated to all players the importance of wearing their designated team clothing throughout the tournament.
