In an important event that took place at the Ambalangoda railway station today (18), Mr. Mahinda Deshapriya, the previous chairman of the Election Commission, personally gave out leaflets urging people to use their right to vote in the next presidential election. This is the first time that a senior former election officer has taken such an active role in promoting voter awareness.
Speaking about the project, Mr. Deshapriya urged the people to remember the significance of each person’s right to vote and stressed the importance of this fundamental duty. He made it clear that his actions were entirely directed toward highlighting the importance of voting and had nothing to do with promoting any one candidate or political party.
