IndiGo to Launch Flights Between Chennai and Jaffna from September 1

Beginning on September 1, IndiGo, a prominent airline in India, will offer flights between Chennai and Jaffna. According to an official, this action is a part of the airline’s expansion goals.

At the moment, Alliance Air from India serves the Jaffna International Airport with daily flights. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs first funded these flights as part of a viability gap finance program to improve connectivity between northern Sri Lanka and southern India. The money has already been removed, though, as the route is now profitable, allowing IndiGo to join the market.

According to a Jaffna source, there are plans to expand the Jaffna International Airport even farther.

Furthermore, the passenger ferry service between Kankesanthurai (KKS), which is close to Jaffna, and Nagapattinam, in India, has just started up again. With about fifty passengers, the IndSri Ferry Services-operated ferry known as “Sivagangai” finished its inaugural voyage on the route in about four hours.
