In the Wellawaya Divisional Secretariat’s Neththamaluwa Mountain Reserve, a significant fire started yesterday afternoon, the 27th. across the night, the fire quickly spread across the reserve, burning more than 20 acres of land.
Strong winds in the region and the very dry weather contributed to the fire’s rapid spread. Even though the fire was well contained by this morning, there are still a few little flames visible in a few areas of the reserve.
Authorities are evaluating the damage, which they believe to be substantial.
