Wimalaweera Dissanayake, the MP for Digamadulla District in Podujana Peramuna, Sri Lanka, has endorsed President Ranil Wickremesinghe, along with a number of other local government officials.
Dissanayake expressed support for the President’s leadership during a meeting that took place yesterday afternoon (the 26th) at the President’s political office on Flower Road in Colombo.
Speaking to the press, MP Dissanayake said, “There’s no other option right now. Political hyperbole is not going to save the country; only Ranil can. If he can lead the country through these difficult times, we ought to support him. Ranil is the one who can keep the nation moving forward right now, but Namal Rajapaksa is a possible presidential candidate in the future. Despite the rhetorical and political flourishes, Ranil Wickremesinghe is the leader who genuinely comprehends the reality of the global community.
In the meantime, President Wickremesinghe underlined the need of popular backing for the government’s continuous initiatives to guide the nation’s economy in the direction of stability. In his address at the 37th Annual Conference of Trade Unions in Sri Lanka, the President emphasized the strides achieved toward attaining a swift economic revival. Additionally, he reaffirmed that the arrangement with the International Monetary Fund is essential to resolving the current crisis and mentioned that the country has already started to reap the benefits of the respite this accord has brought about.
