The International Cricket Council (ICC) has formally charged Sri Lankan cricketer Praveen Jayawickrama with three breaches of its Anti-Corruption Code. Jayawickrama is accused of violating the following articles:
- Article 2.4.4 – Failing to report promptly details of an approach to engage in match-fixing in future international matches.
- Article 2.4.4 – Failing to disclose an approach received to influence another player on behalf of a corrupter during the 2021 Lanka Premier League.
- Article 2.4.7 – Obstructing the investigation by deleting messages related to these corrupt approaches and offers.
In line with Articles 1.7.4.1 and 1.8.1 of the Code, Sri Lanka Cricket and the ICC have agreed to address the Lanka Premier League-related charge alongside the international match charges.
Jayawickrama has been given 14 days, starting from 6 August 2024, to respond to these charges. The ICC has stated that no further comments will be made regarding the case at this time.
