Supreme Court Orders Submission of Investigation Reports on Express Pearl Environmental Damage

CNFadmin

Today (30), the Supreme Court mandated the presentation of all investigation reports related to the environmental damage caused by the fire and destruction of the Express Pearl ship near the Port of Colombo. This directive addresses both the harm inflicted on the sea and the coastal ecosystem.

The order was issued by a five-member Supreme Court bench in response to fundamental rights petitions filed by His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith and other parties. The petitioners are seeking compensation for the environmental damage and the impact on fishermen resulting from the Express Pearl incident. The respondents, including the Attorney General, have been directed to submit the requested reports.
