Last night, six girls managed to escape from the Maththegoda Child Care Center, prompting a swift response from local authorities. The police reported today that the runaway girls were apprehended while seeking refuge in a house located in Angulana area.
Among those who fled are three 15-year-olds, two 16-year-olds, and one 18-year-old. The Child Care Center currently houses 22 underage girls under the care of the probation department, as mandated by court orders.
The incident came to light when it was noticed that six girls had abandoned their food bags around 8:45 PM yesterday. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that they had absconded from the center, leading to immediate police involvement.
Authorities have disclosed that the house where the girls were discovered belongs to a relative of one of the escapees. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding their escape and ensure their safety.
