In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court has mandated that compensation for violations of fundamental rights related to the Easter Sunday terrorist attack must be disbursed by August 30. This directive targets former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara, and former head of State Intelligence Service Nilantha Jayawardena.

The seven-member panel of the Supreme Court also instructed the Attorney General to initiate contempt of court proceedings against these individuals if the specified compensation is not paid by September 20.
