President Ranil Wickramasinghe addressed the Parliament today, revealing that Sri Lanka’s foreign debt stands at $37 billion. This sum comprises $10.6 billion in bilateral loans, $11.7 billion in multilateral loans, $14.7 billion in commercial loans, and $12.5 billion in sovereign bonds.

During his special statement, President Wickramasinghe informed the Parliament that on June 26, agreements were finalized with the country’s official creditors concerning debt repayment. These agreements were formally endorsed by cabinet-appointed officials representing Sri Lanka.

The President acknowledged the varied opinions circulating both within Parliament and beyond regarding the restructuring of debt and associated matters. He emphasized that certain claims being circulated are inaccurate.
