The Railway Department has announced the commencement of a special train service from tomorrow, offering free rides for devotees traveling to Mihintale for Poson Poya.
Due to incomplete work on the Northern Railway between Mahawa and Anuradhapura, regular train services will not be available this Poson season. Instead, 400 special buses have been deployed to accommodate travelers.
The Minister of Transport Services revealed that a new short-distance railway line has been constructed from Anuradhapura to Mihintale. The Railway Department has been directed to provide a special toll-free train service for pilgrims visiting Mihintale.
Additionally, a special bus service will operate from Mahawa railway station to Anuradhapura for passengers arriving from Colombo to Mahawa by train.
Following the renovation of the railway line between Anuradhapura and Mihintale, the inaugural train run began this morning (17th).
